What We Believe
What we believe (our doctrine) is a very important part of each believer’s life and walk with God. At Northside Church our doctrines are grounded in Scripture and we have no book of rule or law except the Bible.
We believe that every person is called to have a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. That calling provides us with a dual purpose for living. Mark 12:30 tells us to love God with everything in us and love others as we love ourselves while Matthew 28:19-20 tells us to teach all nations to become followers of Jesus. In simple terms our dual calling means first to honor, glorify and exalt God as our Heavenly Father and Jesus as our Lord and Savior, and secondly to proclaim the truth of God’s word, the Bible, to those who do not know Jesus and have not submitted to His Lordship. Our purpose statement, as a Church, is “Seek and Reflect God’s Glory!” We seek Him in worship, Bible study and prayer and we reflect Him through service, outreach and teaching. We believe this statement connects both parts of our dual calling.
We believe there is only one God, Jehovah, and He exists as the eternal Trinity we know as the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We believe Jesus is God’s only begotten Son (John 3:16 KJV) and through His death on the cross and resurrection from the dead, He has paid the price required for the sins of those who enter into an obedient faith relationship with Him.
We believe that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:10-11) and that there is no other name given under heaven by which men must be saved (Acts 4:12).
We believe the Bible is God’s inerrant authoritative Word. It is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness (II Timothy 3:16) and it is our sole book of doctrine and rule.
We believe that all people are sinners and are separated from God by sin (Anything that displease God). We believe that anyone can be saved by God’s grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Ephesians 2:8).
We believe the Bible teaches five steps by which we accept God’s free gift of salvation.
Faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Hebrews 11:1,6)
Repentance from sin (Luke 13:3, Acts 2:38)
Confession of your faith in Jesus (Acts 8:37, Romans 10:10)
Baptism by immersion in water (Acts 2:38, Mark 16:16)
Growth until mature in Christ (Acts 2:42)
Membership in Northside Church is based on the acceptance of salvation through the five steps of faith. Anyone who has entered into a saving relationship with Jesus is invited to be a member.
We observe the Lord’s Supper (communion) each week as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross for us. All Christians are invited to participate in communion. (Acts 2:42, Acts 20:7)
We believe the Bible teaches that giving is an important part of honoring God. The tithe or giving of 1/10 of your income is the scriptural standard (Malachi 3:10)
